When you had the idea for the subject of your film At War for Love, besides the 1943 interention of the American troops to help in the liberation of Sicily, were you also thinking about the role of America in the world today?

Absolutely. After landing in Sicily, the Americans did what they then went on to do in other parts of the world, which was to become allied with their enemy's enemy. Whether this was the mafia, Pinochet, Franco, or terrorists it didn't matter much at the time. In Italy, the mafia was instrumental first against Fascism and then against Communism.
